Cycle Store General Assistant

A vacancy has arisen in our busy Surrey cycle store for a general assistant. We are a long-established independent cycle retailer based in Addlestone, Surrey and have an excellent reputation within the surrounding areas and now need to recruit an additional member to our small team. The successful candidate will become part of a small, close-knit team and will be involved in all aspects of running this successful business including selling to and advising customers, managing stock levels, dealing with suppliers and assisting in the workshop.

This is an excellent opportunity either for someone with cycle-trade experience to make an immediate contribution or for someone looking for a rapid immersion in all aspects of the cycle trade.

Job Description

Job Title: Cycle Store General Assistant

Role Description

5 days/40 hours per week including regular weekend working

Salary negotiable, depending on experience                                          

Main duties include:

·         Serve and advise customers on all products on our catalogue – bikes, accessories and components.

·         Ensure high level of customer satisfaction and repeat visits

·         Manage email inbox and respond appropriately to all email enquiries

·         Maintain stock catalogue (excel spreadsheet)

·         Update website with latest offers, etc

·         Generate/update sales tickets on bikes and other stock items

Working with owner:

·         Manage stock levels – re-order when necessary

·         Interact with suppliers via telephone & B2B websites

·         Ensure appropriate bikes displayed on shop floor, window, outside racks

Working with mechanic:

·         accept bookings for bike service and repairs

·         check bikes in for repair and provide estimates to customers

·         assemble new bikes from boxes

Advise customers, understand requirements and sell appropriate bike

Required Skills/Experience

Polite and friendly with good customer handling skills essential, previous retail experience desirable

Good practical skills, mechanical experience           

Willing to learn about all aspects of running a bike shop

Willing to get involved in a wide range of tasks on a day-to-day basis

Familiarity with bikes – enthusiastic cyclist desirable

PC literate – email, Microsoft Office – excel spreadsheets, web-site updates, B2B web-sites
